Definition: silymarin

Milk thistle (silymarin) is an herbal extract frequently used for chronic liver diseases, though it has never conclusively been shown to improve ALT or ameliorate fibrosis.  However, it may have an antiviral property that lowers HCV RNA and it has also been shown to prevent recurrence of HCV after liver transplantation in case studies.
