Clinical Pearl

When palpating the liver, pay less attention to span and more attention to subcostal contour.  Hepatomegaly will present itself with subcostal prominence, and cirrhosis will present itself with left lobe (midline) hypertrophy.  Of course the texture of this subcostal contour (firm, nodular) can also be helpful.
