Definition: autoimmune pancreatitis

Autoimmune pancreatitis is a misnomer of sorts because it is a systemic disease of immunoglobulin G (subclass 4) deposition that commonly affects the pancreas as well as the intrahepatic bile ducts.  It should be considered whenever primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is in the differential diagnosis, and fortunately it has a treatment- prednisone.
