Accumulation

It is believed that liver fibrosis progresses from one stage to the next every 7 years in hepatitis C patients.  Therefore, one can expect cirrhosis after 25-30 years.  A concomitant insult, like iron dysmetabolism or alcohol abuse may speed up this process; alternately, some patients are slow fibrosers and may never accumulate much scar tissue.
