Clinical Pearl

Limiting protein intake in the cirrhotic patient with a history of hepatic encephalopathy is not really a great idea; it’s more or less an old wive’s tale (akin to not giving acetaminophen to the liver patient).  These patients need as much calories from fat and protein as they can muster, given their hypercatabolic state.   So, with that said, eat as much turkey as desired. Happy Thanksgiving!
