Palmar erythema (PE) always seems to be associated with portal hypertension. Did you realize how many other conditions are associated with PE? Pregnancy (30%), rheumatoid arthritis (60%), thyrotoxicosis (18%), diabetes mellitus (4%), use of amiodarone, gemfibrozil, topiramate, albuterol or cholestyramine, smoking, mercury poisoning and brain neoplasms (primary as well as metastatic).
