Definition: HSV hepatitis

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) hepatitis is a rare, anicteric hepatitis caused by HSV-1 or HSV-2 and is commonly seen in the immunocompromised patient (ie. post-transplant, HIV, taking steroids).  It typically presents in a fulminant fashion, with fever and abdominal pain, and is treated with acyclovir.
