Pathology: Amanita phalloides

 

On a hike in Mount Desert Island, Maine, I came across a young specimen of Amanita phalloides (toxic mushroom; “death cap“). One ounce is enough to kill a human.  It is now four days since the discovery and I am not jaundiced; hopefully they are safe to touch.
