Definition: cirrhotic cardiomyopathy

Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy is a chronic cardiac dysfunction in patients with cirrhosis characterized by impaired contractile responsiveness (systolic dysfunction) to stress and/or altered ventricular relaxation (diastolic dysfunction) with electrophysiological abnormalities in the absence of other known cardiac disease.  Its incidence and natural history are poorly defined, as the entity is still under early investigation.
