Too obese to palpate for splenomegaly below the costal margin? Try percussing the lower left anterior ribcage, called Traube’s space; an enlarged spleen grows in both directions. Traube’s space will be dull to percussion in two scenarios: splenomegaly, and a stomach full of food.
