Definition: hepatocyte turnover

Hepatocyte turnover is a topic that most lay-people are vaguely familiar with; the average half-life of a hepatocyte is over 100 days, though can be reduced to as low as 10 days in the setting of increased necroinflammatory activity or associated toxicity.  After live-donor liver transplantation, the half-sized liver can grow to its original size within several months.
