Hepatitis C antiviral treatment frequently causes anemia (it’s actually a good prognostic sign if anemia develops early- it says the treatment is working).  In the case of Ribavirin the etiology is hemolysis, while in the case of Peg-interferon the etiology is marrow suppression.
