Definition: autoimmune pancreatitis

Autoimmune pancreatitis is a misnomer of sorts; in fact it is a steroid-responsive depositional disease of the IgG-4 subclass, and can be deposited in places like the pancreatic duct or intrahepatic bile ducts, causing strictures.  The presentation can mimic that of PSC, with elevated alkaline phosphatase and cholestasis, and should be considered whenever PSC is diagnosed or suspected.
